Redzuan Rusli is a mixed-media artist currently based in Brunei Darussalam. Lived in Gwangju, South Korea for five years, he enrolled in Chonnam National University where he successfully completed a one-year intensive Korean Language Course and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Oil Painting.

He started to be active in this art industry since 2005. And since then he has been active exhibiting his artwork locally and internationally for over 20 group exhibitions and once for his solo exhibition called “Sense; less guidance, more freedom” (Click Here) in February 2013.

Upon completion of his studies in 2014, he became a full time artist for a year and co-curated an exchange project called Korea-Brunei ART LINK Project with Ms Grace Lim, a curator of Gallery DM in August 2015. The project consisted of two group art exhibitions both in Brunei and South Korea and a sponsored artist residency program. Being selected as one of the participants for the project itself, he spent one month producing a series called "Feelings" (Click Here) in Oedong, Gyeongsangbuk-do together with one Bruneian artist, five Korean artists and a group of four artists from France.

Redzuan Rusli  based his artwork on the values of freedom and respects. He believed that people are free to do

what they want to do, think what they want to think, believe what they want to believe and thus free to express

their thoughts and values.

His artwork is a shadow to his every single emotion and different mixture of feelings he often had. Most of the

time it acts as his only ‘private space’ to express his personal thoughts and feelings. Painting allows him to express

his  1001 feelings and views freely without fearing about being ‘disrespectful’ and ‘provocative’ to others. And it

also allows him to communicate his thoughts and frustrations, when no one understands. He fights with a piece

of canvas, which he thinks is better than fighting and arguing with people.

He does not believe in describing his artwork to the viewers because he personally thinks that art is not meant to

be explained, but rather to be enjoyed. He would prefer his artwork to be mysterious with hidden stories

instilling his views and imaginations thus communicate a sense of tranquility and privacy.

And it is often up to people to see it with their own interpretation and freedom to create their own stories and tales. That is his purpose of painting; to give other and viewers freedom to wander with their own imagination, which he thinks is even more interesting.
